Provider & Location Data Curation

Atlantic Health

As Atlantic Health System approached the end of its contract with its previous provider data management vendor, it created an opportunity to re-evaluate how provider and location information was managed across the organization. Existing processes relied on multiple sources and manual maintenance, making it difficult to ensure data consistency across the public website and other external directories. In response, the Digital Solutions team developed DocRefine, an in-house provider data management platform designed to aggregate, curate, and govern provider and location data from multiple upstream systems. By establishing a centralized source of truth, DocRefine improves data accuracy, streamlines content management, and supports a more consistent digital experience for patients and consumers.

Problem

Atlantic Health lacked a system to efficiently manage provider and location data, leading to inconsistent and outdated information across various platforms, lacking a source of truth for provider and location data.

How can we bring all data into a central platform that allows users to curate data and create one source of truth ?

Solution

A centralized data management platform that ingests data from multiple upstream sources where provisioned users can edit and curate provider and location data.

  • Ingest Provider data from multiple source databases (EHR, Credentialing, etc)
  • Enable data as a service to power multiple use cases
    • Atlantic Health website (Find a doctor listings, provider and location pages)
    • Provider scheduling slots APIs
    • Call center manual

Improving the workflow

Previous workflow pain points

  1. Manual work: Multiple edits needed across platforms
  2. Provider and location data are not linked
  3. Duplicate locations in the system

DocRefine Solution:

  1. Reduce manual work:
    • One source of truth for data
    • Automate edits where possible
  2. Edits pertaining to a location and provider are reflected on both pages
  3. Detect Duplicate Locations

Data as a Service

A centralized data management platform that ingests data from multiple upstream sources where provisioned users can edit and curate provider and location data.

Iteration

After the initial discovery to identify feature requirements, the design team has continued to add enhancements and features for editing and curating data.

  • Eliminated reliance on a third-party provider data management vendor by developing an internally owned solution.
  • Streamlined provider data maintenance by reducing the need for manual updates across multiple systems.
  • Enabled faster identification and resolution of data quality issues through centralized management and oversight.

Data Quality & Governance

  • Established a centralized source of truth for provider and location data.
  • Reduced data discrepancies by consolidating information from multiple upstream systems into a single governed platform.
  • Improved consistency of provider information across the public website and external applicaitons.

Patient Experience

  • Improved the accuracy and completeness of provider information available to patients.
  • Supported a more consistent provider search experience across digital channels.
